I got rid of the toybox...

You know you have too many toys when the playroom looks like Toys R Us threw up in it. So inspired by blsdmama's blog entry Are You Living Intentionally?, I did away with the toybox!

We do clean up every night, but this is ridiculous:

The big blue bucket was filled to overflowing with toys and I narrowed it down to that one red basket. The stuff in the box will be taken to Goodwill and we have a trash bag full of stuff to throw away.

Here's the playroom now. I used to have 6 of those red baskets filled with junk. I narrowed it down to 3 a few months ago and now we're down to 1. The white container on the top shelf is filled with play food. Next to the shelf is the little people garage and lincoln logs. I stashed the dress up clothes in an under the bed box in Jazzy's room.

Keyboard and a book rack:

Here's my desk. On the shelves above my desk are a train set, playdoh, cards and board games, math manipulatives, wooden blocks, art supplies and home school books. I put these up at least 6 months ago. When I had everything down they would spread it all over the floor and not play with it. Now this stuff keeps them busy for hours.

How we did it: The kids helped me dump everything on the floor and we sorted it into stacks of keep, throw away and give away. I told them where to put each toy and when we got close to the end I let them make a few choices such as "Which 2 bracelets do you want to keep?"

Sometimes I'd ask Drew, "Do you play with this?" and he'd answer, "Not really 'cause I couldn't find it" or "I didn't even know we had it."

I still think we have way too much...
