I'm obviously a very inconsistent blogger. I always get sidetracked with one project or another. First I built a website and now I'm an Usborne Children's Books consultant. I guess I have ADD, lol, but it has been fun!
Last week, James took me to our annual homeschool convention, and I came across a book jdavidb from the WS has been encouraging us to read, Whatever Happened to Penny Candy?
On page 41 of the book, the author, Richard J. Maybury, says something that I am beginning to understand is so true:
"In an election, it is important to be aware of The Lie. The Lie is, I will give you what you want, and I will make someone else pay for it. The candidate who can tell The Lie most convincingly is the one who wins the election."
Some of my favorite books on success and finances are the Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey, Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki and Success is Not an Accident by Tommy Newberry. All of them have the same underlying theme - don't rely on the government for help.
The prophet Jeremiah put it this way:
"Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the Lord. He will be like a bush in the wastelands; he will not see prosperity when it comes. He will dwell in he parched places of the desert in a salt land where no one lives.
But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in the year of drought and never fails to bear fruit." (Jeremiah 17:6-8)
I am becoming more and more disinterested in the election. I don't buy what any of the candidates are selling. My trust is in the Lord.
