My aunt loaned us the movie Searching for Bobby Fisher. Now we're teaching ourselves to play chess.
She also loaned us the movie Facing the Giants. There were a few moments of bad acting, but the movie had a wholesome, inspiring story line, and we all enjoyed it.
Speaking of football, we had our last football game Saturday. Flag football has been a character boot camp for our family, and I am amazed at how Drew is maturing. Here he is with PaPa and MaMa.
I was wondering whether or not we should celebrate Halloween this year for two reasons.
1. I didn't want to spend money on costumes.
2. The kids don't like knocking on strangers' doors after dark, no matter how much candy they get. Last year as we were leaving the house, Jazzy said, "Mom, are they going to kill us?" By the time we got to the 5th or 6th house, I was practically dragging them to the door as they cried, "No, mom. We want to go home." So much for eating Drew's peanut candy...
I'd been thinking about all this, when J decided our family won't do Halloween for spiritual reasons. So I made a big pot of chili, and we ate frito pie and s'mores, watched a movie and camped out in the living room. The kids decided that was more fun than going out, and as Drew said, "all that candy can make you get cavities in your teeth." They want to camp out again for Christmas.
Zay missed the whole "camp out" theme and seemed to think we'd built an obstacle course in the living room. He loved climbing back and forth over Jazzy.
A few weeks ago, I took Jazzy to my old stylist to get her hair straightened and have her ends trimmed.
She tried really hard not to cry so on the way home we stopped for ice cream. She got ice cream in her hair, so there went the straight look. But it was fun to see how long her hair is.
This weekend Jazzy got her first pair of boots. I didn't remember she needed church shoes until the shoe stores were closed, so I picked these up from Target. So cute!
She is turning into quite the little lady, with her painted toenails and lip cloth (gloss). She loves wearing the headbands her grandma makes and sells.

When Jazzy told me a while back that she wanted to be a boy, we assumed she was around boys too much. We signed her up for ballet and bought her girly nightgowns and toe nail polish. It never occurred to us to dress her in boy clothes, start calling her Johnny and take her to gender reassignment therapy. I think we made the right decision. ;)
Katie has been taking her daughters out for tea, and that sounds like fun so that's next on my list. I want my daughter to ENJOY being a woman. Oprah isn't the only one with an agenda. I'm just glad mine is rooted in TRUTH!
