After the big toy giveaway, I took an empty Huggies box and started filling it with junk - shoe boxes, cereal boxes, toilet paper rolls, mayonnaise squeeze bottles - basically anything that I would have formerly thrown away that the kids could use for crafts.
Andrew looks in the box every morning, and uses the items to make all sorts of things. Here are some instruments - a drum, a kazoo and a guitar. We've used them to entertain guests.
Here's a pirate ship. Guess I could have saved the money I spent on Playmobile.
One day the kids went for a walk with their Grandma and came back with rocks, leaves and flowers (which I was recently told I should let them bring inside). I grabbed an empty wipes container and an old shoe box from the "junk box", gave one to each of them to use as a "nature box".
The kids were so excited to show their treasures to their daddy. Jazzy pulled hers out this weekend to show her rock (chunk of concrete) to J's best friend.
I really need to do nature walks with them more often. It really is fun for them to find treasures to bring inside.
