Our homeschooling curriula...

My goals for my children are:

1. To know God and serve him.
2. To have good values and character.
3. To know the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic.

If my children only have number 1, I will consider myself blessed. "What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?" Matthew 16:26

I plan to teach more than character and the basics, but if my children go no further than numbers 2 and 3, I feel they will be able to learn and accomplish anything the Lord has for them.

This year Drew will use:

-ABC Bible Memory Program
-Abeka Bible Doctrinal Drill
-Abeka grade 1 phonics, spelling, language arts and arithmetic
-A Reason for Handwriting, level A
-My Calendar Book (to practice days, weeks and months of the year)
-Maps, Charts and Graphs (a fun workbook about reading maps and charts)

Jazzy will use:

-ABC Bible Memory Program
-Abeka Bible Doctrinal Drill
-Rod and Staff Publishers A-B-C Series (great pre-school workbooks)
-Donna Young printables and A Reason for Handwriting, level K

I have a list of books to read aloud to the children, most of which were taken from the Sonlight Levels B and C book lists. I also have a list of books for Drew to read aloud to me.

We will do art projects from a book called Preschool Art, and I have a list of about 20 science/social studies projects on various themes. Most of them are along the lines of what we did with the farm puppets. Do an activity, read books on the topic and perhaps go on a field trip. (I am amazed by how much my children retain when we do this.)

We keep things very relaxed. Some days we do three lessons, some days none at all. We take weeks off here and there, and sometimes we work straight through the weekend.

What works for me is to have a program (Abeka) I can skim 10 minutes before we start school and then teach in a manner that works for us. I also keep books and supplies on hand, along with a list of what's available and a list of projects that we can pick up whenever the mood hits us.

So that's pretty much how we do school around here, or that's the plan, at least...

I will post some of my lists later. The one with projects is pretty detailed and may be hard to post, so e-mail me if you want that one. Those of you who don't have my personal e-mail address can use jazzymomof2@yahoo.com.
