Rule #1 of Crisis Management...

When you call you husband to report a disaster in the home, make it out to be BIG. Tell him how awful it is and how sorry you are and how you're going to fix it. Then tell him it was an accident and nobody's fault and that after all it's just a Thing that you can't take with you to heaven and at least everyone is safe. When he comes home expecting the worst and sees it is not as bad as he imagined, he will be more relieved than angry and it makes for a better evening.

Um, honey, if you're reading this... Yesterday I went into the kitchen and saw Drew sitting at the table cutting playdoh with a steak knife. I immediately made him switch it out for a plastic one, but later saw these Huge, Horrible, Ugly Gashes in our brand new dining table. It's Awful! I am sooooo sorry for not watching him more closely and M is helping me look for something to patch it up. But it was just an accident and nobody's fault and after all it's only a table and no one was hurt. Please don't worry about it. Just relax and enjoy the rest of your trip.

Oh, and we love you and think you're awesome!
