On being normal...

After Zay was born, my 16 year old cousin Joy came over to help me. She overheard me tell Drew he was weird and said, "Say thank you! I always say thanks when people tell me I'm weird."

Well, my cousin Joy IS weird. She is a teenage girl who does not have sex, drink, smoke or do drugs. She doesn't hide out in her room chatting on the phone or text messaging friends. She doesn't have filthy photos of herself on a My Space page. She has friends but they aren't the center of her world. She *gasp* does not date. And she is not going through a period of heartbreak, angst and rebellion.

Joy knows how to work and care for a family. She Chooses to hear the Pastor's sermon instead of running off to youth group to be entertained. Joy reads and makes jewelry and makes time to come help her old cousin.

Very weird, that Joy, praise the Lord! Her 4 adult sisters weren't normal either and I will be blessed if my children turn out like them.

Many things that you will read about on my blog or those I enjoy are Not "normal".

Normal is parents who want to escape from unpleasant, disobedient children.
Normal is teens who hate their parents and engage in destructive behaviors.
Normal is family discord and divorce.

If I, Lord willing, meet the goals I have for my family, we will be Weird. I doubt we could normal be if we tried. Do we look normal to you?
